CASE STUDY
Small Garden Transformation in Brockley
A compact Victorian rear garden in SE4 transformed with clever zoning, raised composite decking, sunken porcelain dining area, vertical planting wall and a small water feature — proving that small doesn't mean limited.

“We have a small garden and were worried it would feel even smaller after landscaping. The opposite happened — the clever zoning and level changes make it feel twice the size. The lighting is incredible in the evenings. Highly recommend.”
The problem
A compact Brockley garden that needed to feel bigger, calmer and more usable. The existing space was flat, featureless and dominated by a tired lawn. There was no defined seating area, no privacy and no atmosphere after dark.
Work completed
We introduced a raised composite deck, a sunken paved dining area, a lush vertical planting wall on the boundary and a small recirculating water feature. The planting scheme uses evergreen climbers, ferns and Hakonechloa grass to soften the space without cluttering it.
The result
A compact garden that now feels like two distinct outdoor rooms. The level change between the deck and dining area creates visual depth, the vertical planting adds greenery without losing floor space, and the lighting makes the garden usable well into the evening.
